Biography:

Gained his Ph.D. in Composition at the University of Calgary where he taught composition and musicianship during 2002-2003. He was a Chair of the Department of Music at Eastern Mediterranean University, Famagusta, (N Cyprus) where he taught music technology, composition, orchestration, 20th century music analysis and directed the chamber music ensemble. He joined the Music Department at Keele in 2005 where he teaches Electroacoustic Music, Electroacoustic Composition, and Computer Music Techniques.

New Music for Louis Riel Score Co-commissioned By Canadian Opera Company And National Arts Centre

The Canadian Opera Company and the National Arts Centre have co-commissioned a new work to replace the music from the Kuyas aria that opens the third act of Louis Riel by composer Harry Somers and librettist Mavor Moore. Composer Ian Cusson, of Métis and French-Canadian descent, has been commissioned to create this new work for the opera, last performed at both the COC and NAC in 2017.

My reverie gradually took me back to a much earlier time when such thinking was a fresh idea.

In Memoriam: Derek Holman (1931-2019)

The Canadian Music Centre joins with the Canadian music community, in particular in the Toronto region, to mourn the loss of Associate Composer Derek Holman. Dr. Holman died in Ottawa on May 20, 2019 at the age of 88.
