Event Title: Julia Den Boer performs Di Castri, Ricketts, Cherney, Saunders and Lucier
Description:

Pianist Julia Den Boer presents a world premiere by composer Zosha Di Castri along with works by Matthew Ricketts, Brian Cherney, Rebecca Saunders and Alvin Lucier.

Zosha Di Castri’s Dux deals with how streams of musical activity can be parsed on the piano. Via falling cyclical canons that grow in complexity and energetic outbursts from the extremes of the instrument, this new work can be read as an abstract reflection on the current political climate in the US. This new work is supported by the Yvar Mikhashoff Trust for New Music.

Hear this great Canadian in two of her specialties: the Spanish flare of Manuel de Falla’s Nights in the Gardens of Spain plus Ravel’s jazz-infused Piano Concerto in G. Arc of Horizon, by WSO Composer-in-Residence Harry Stafylakis, contrasts his competing passions for metal and classical music. Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite completes this exotic program.
