VPO Double Premiere concert is 1 week away!

February 16, 2015

The Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra will feature two world premieres by BC composers at its upcoming concert on February 21, 2015!

HABIBI - The Promised Hand
We are exceptionally proud to open the concert with a piece written exclusively for the VPO by Iranian-Canadian composer and UBC graduate, Iman Habibi. Iman is VPO's first Composer-in-Residence, a position that is being developed in 2014/15 as a part of our 50th anniversary celebrations. The position provides emerging Canadian composers an opportunity to write for a full symphony orchestra and to have their work performed by a live audience.

NICKEL - Concerto for Oboe
Christopher Tyler Nickel's concerto was written specifically for soloist Roger Cole, principal oboist of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. This exciting work offers both soloist and orchestra a chance to show off their virtuosity and an opportunity to hear one of North America’s leading oboists perform a work specifically tailored to his strengths.

We hope you will join us in this exploration of music old and new, and in support of such amazing local talent.
