"He has written music for string quartets, orchestras, violins and woodwinds, but Ottawa composer Jan Jarvlepp owes his biggest international hit to the day he looked into his recycling bin and thought it would be fun to write some music for tin cans, hub caps and a bunch of empty bottles.

He called it the Garbage Concerto, and since its premiere in 1996 with the Ottawa Symphony under conductor David Currie, the piece has received nearly 50 performances, from Mexico City, Taiwan and Denmark to New York’s Lincoln Center. In 1999 the Singapore Symphony and the Kroumata Ensemble recorded the piece for a CD that’s available through Amazon..."
