Hi all,

Spring has arrived in full force here in Calgary -- the robins have returned and there are even daffodils and crocuses blooming on sunny southern slopes.

John has been busy travelling recently, first to Hamilton for the JUNO Awards Classical Music Showcase, which was incredibly successful again this year and showcased a spectacular array of fine Canadian musicians and composers. Congratulations to CMC composer Brian Current who won Classical Composition of the Year for his work “Airline Icarus.”

Then he visited New York to hear the Kronos Quartet premiere a work inspired by Alberta’s oilsands. (NYT review here) John will be interviewing Kronos’ David Harrington on his radio program May 5.

Calgarians, don’t forget to save the date for our upcoming casino September 17 and 18 ― we will be sending out a call for volunteers soon! The casino supplies the CMC with approximately $70,000 of funding for each cycle and we can’t make it happen without our wonderful volunteers!

Don’t forget to upload all your Canadian music events to the event calendar on musiccentre.ca.
