Introducing the EQ Women in Electronic Music Participants for 2017

January 18, 2017

(Toronto) – The CMC in collaboration with composer and sound artist Rose Bolton embarks on the second year of EQ: Women in Electronic Music, a project that focuses on mentorship and community building among women who create electronic music. EQ combines technical instruction and support, and the sharing of music and ideas to foster camaraderie among women. We are pleased to welcome the following artists to the 2017 edition of EQ:

Participants will engage in monthly group workshops as well as individual sessions facilitated by Rose Bolton. Group Activities will take place in the Chalmers Performance Space at the CMC in Toronto.

Women are often under-represented and marginalized in electronic music scenes. EQ: Women in Electronic Music has been developed to support musical growth and the pursuit of artistic excellence among participants. At the same time, participants become part of a community in electronic music that extends beyond the EQ program—EQ aspires to achieve a gender ratio among artistic creators which mirrors that of the people listening.

As organizers, we feel humbled by the expressions of interest, and the wide range of artists, who applied to EQ during this round. Over the next six months as we are delivering the EQ program, we will be looking ahead to consider strategies for reaching more artists and connecting with wider communities—those seeking out this form of programming, and those building their own programs to define new creative spaces and relationships. We want to share the lessons we learn as organizers, and find out about strategies being deployed elsewhere.
