EQ 2018 Participant Announcement

EQ 2018 Participant Announcement

January 8, 2018

Introducing the EQ Women in Electronic Music Participants for 2018
(Toronto) – Composer and sound artist Rose Bolton, in collaboration with the Canadian Music Centre and Musica Reflecta, is excited to announce the participants for EQ: Women in Electronic Music 2018. Now in its third year, EQ focuses on mentorship and community building among trans and cis women and genderqueer folks who create electronic music. The six-month program combines technical instruction and support, and the sharing of music and ideas to foster camaraderie among participants. The following artists will participate in EQ 2018:
April Aliermo
Janal Bechthold
Muhubo Mohamed (Obuxum)
Sun Sun (Above Top Secret / Instagram)
Janet Sit
Debbie Sleiman
Dinah Thorpe
Danielle Bundy (Jackie Spade)
Participants will engage in monthly group workshops as well as individual sessions facilitated by Bolton. In 2018 EQ also welcomes guest mentors including Pursuit Grooves (Vanese Smith) as part of the expanded program made possible through the collaboration with Musica Reflecta, and with support from the SOCAN Foundation. EQ is also excited to be working with Moog Audio as the EQ equipment sponsor for 2018.
EQ: Women in Electronic Music supports musical growth and the pursuit of artistic excellence among participants. Past participants have gone on to self-produce their albums, incorporate new technologies into live electronic music performance, and also foster new collaborations amongst one another. EQ brings together a cross section of artists working in different genres and disciplines together, which creates even greater opportunities for knowledge sharing and community building. These connections now extend beyond the EQ program.
With each year, the artists and administrators collaborating on EQ become aware of the demand among artists—those within Toronto, and an increasing number from across Canada, and internationally—for this style of programming. While we have the capacity to work with a core of eight artists, we are open to dialogue with other artists and organizations wanting to address accessibility, representation, and new forms of programming.
