Each movement of this piece is a loose reflection of different styles of music in the twentieth century. Part I reflects the idea of lyricism from the beginning of the period. Part II has echoes of Eastern European classical music from between the world wars. Part III combines short motifs, repetitive patterns and neurotic shifts in mood often found in new music of the last fifty years.
