GAYLE YOUNG (b. 1950) is a composer, author and inventor of musical instruments and notational systems. The earliest of Ms. Young's extensive essays about music, an article describing her invention of and performances upon the microtonal percussion instruments, the Amaranth and Columbine, appeared in the premiere issue of Musicworks magazine in 1978.
