Canadian composer, cellist part of visiting performers, Touring orchestra from Switzerland performs in Brockville July 12

"...In early June, in Zurich, the orchestra debuted a piece composed by Montreal's Eric Champagne, a gifted young talent who has already made a name for himself in the classical community. "He's a rising star," says Muller. "We were very lucky to have him compose something for us. I'm very proud."

Mouvement Symphonique No. 1 was composed expressly for the Academic Orchestra of Zurich and was a hit with the Swiss crowd.

"The people really like it and the orchestra really likes to play it," says Muller.

The piece is eight minutes in length and has a flare, says Muller, suggestive of Schoenburg's innovations in the area of tone and texture. Though contemporary in style, it builds enough on convention that it isn't too modern.."
