György Kurtàg’s Kafka Fragments is considered by many to be one of the great works of the last few decades and we are privileged to be able to present this work in a performance featuring renowned soprano Stacie Dunlop and violinist Andrea Neumann. With a text gleaned from Franz Kafka’s diaries, letters and notebooks, the 40 short pieces that comprise this work for an incredibly intense and emotional expression of the compositional virtuosity of György Kurtàg, Hungary’s preeminent living composer.

To complement this astonishing work, we are also proud to present the world premiere of a companion piece to the Kurtàg Kafka Fragments by Edmonton composer and NME Member, Paul Steenhuisen, commissioned by the performers with funding from The Canada Council for the Arts.

Also featured on the program will be works by two of Canada’s most acclaimed composers, Brian Current, and Hope Lee’s across the veiled distances: Ling’s Dream.
