Toy Piano Composers

Profile Type: Ensemble

Founded in 2008 by Monica Pearce and Chris Thornborrow, the Toy Piano Composers (TPC) is a Toronto-based composer collective that seeks to present new music in a welcoming and engaging environment. While the toy piano is a featured instrument in some of their concerts, it primarily acts as a symbol for the group, representing curiosity, humour, and a playful approach to music creation. The TPC has presented over 100 premieres of new works in its almost six years of existence, in collaboration with ensembles including TorQ Percussion Quartet, the Array Ensemble, junctQín keyboard collective, and Sneak Peek Orchestra. Recently, the TPC completed its sixth season, working primarily with the core ensemble the Toy Piano Composers Ensemble.
