Congratulations to the 2024 ECMA Award winners!

Congratulations to all the nominees, winners, and performers who helped celebrate Atlantic Canadian music and musicians last week at the 2024 East Coast Music Awards in Charlottetown, PEI!

A very special congrats to these CMC Associate Composers:

Bill Brennan, whose 2022 Centrediscs release Kaleidoscope – Music for Mallet Instruments won Classical Recording of the Year – having previously earned him a 2023 MusicNL Award for Classical Artist of the Year.

Andrew Staniland, who took home the award for Classical Composer of the Year for his viola-and-electronics work “Blackwood Sketches”, which appeared on Kate Read’s 2022 album After (Leaf Music). (As it happens, Andrew also made an appearance on Bill’s album!)

Derek Charke, Emily Doolittle, and Adam Hill, whose works (including the title track) were featured on the Choral Recording of the Year, Luminos Ensemble’s 2023 album In the Crystalline Vault of Heaven (Leaf Music).

Florian Hoefner, whose 2023 duo album with saxophonist/vocalist Dani Oore, Flying Pooka! The Ecstasy of Becoming (Alma Records), received the award for Instrumental Recording of the Year.

And a very special thanks to all the performers featured at Saturday’s wonderful Classical Showcase, co-presented by CMC and Debut Atlantic: Catherine Little, Edward Enman, Essential Opera, Jennifer King, Luminos Ensemble, and SHHH!! Ensemble.
